The Southern Hemisphere’s largest kiteboarding race, the Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton, takes off from Rottnest this Saturday afternoon, and in less than 25 minutes 200 kiteboarders will arrive in a flurry of colour and speed at Leighton Beach Fremantle.

Race competitors in the fifth edition of the Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton include international champions and past winners chasing the record time of 23 minutes and 50 seconds set by German-born Queenslander Marvin Baumeister in 2013 – faster than the Rottnest Express ferry!

Competitors will race across the Indian Ocean from Phillip Point at Rottnest Island to Leighton Beach North Fremantle. They are vying for a prize pool of more than $9500 plus trophies worth $3500!

World ranked international kiteboarders including current Female World Champion Steph Bridge and her son Olly Bridge from the UK. Olly is reigning European Formula Champion and #3 in the World rankings. German-born Queenslander Marvin Baumeister is back to defend his 2013 win and race record (ranked #6 in the Formula Kite World Ranking), plus there will be local, national and international entrants.
